IMRaD reflections

Ellie's paper: I talked about her in-text citations and that she should explain them a little more. I believe some of my citations aren't explained much either which is something I can change.

Anna's paper: After analyzing Anna's paper, I went back and made sure I cited all of my sources. I also went back and fixed my subheadings. Those are some things I commented on her paper, which also made me double check and fix mine.

In the findings, an increase of an extra one hour per week of physical activity produced a 0.06 improvement in total GPA, a small but positive result.

Immediately after just one session of physical activity, children can increase their attention and memory, and reduce inappropriate behavior, such as being unfocused and causing others to become distracted
Students that were involved in 20 minutes of exercise showed more brain activity than the students that didn't exercise

Children assigned to exercise showed increased bilateral prefrontal cortex activity
Cross-sectional and longitudinal studies performed in the Americas, Europe, and Australia provide clear evidence for the association of inactivity and obesity with poorer academic performance
Statewide studies have found a positive relationship between FitnessGram® (a fitness assessment and reporting program for youth) scores and performance on academic achievement tests.

When physical activity is used as a break from academic learning time, post engagement effects include better attention

Overall, a rapidly growing body of work suggests that time spent engaged in physical activity is related not only to a healthier body but also to a healthier mind
physically active and aerobically fit children consistently outperform their inactive and unfit peers academically on both a short- and a long-term basis.

Paper Topic

The topic I am proposing is if physical activity affects academic success. I decided to choose this topic because it is relatable to many college students. If doing physical activity affects academic success, then many students could benefit from this finding. Some questions include: How many hours of physical activity do you do a week? What is your GPA range? I plan on making a poll to get individuals information on the topic. I also plan on interviewing individuals.

IMRaD is a form of writing that is used during scientific and technical reports. This format talks about why and how you did the things you did to get your results. In previous classes, we have usually just looked at the results and wrote our report based on those findings. We would look up a topic and then search for points that we can back up and argue. Also, the IMRaD format uses section and tables in the writings. Previous research papers have a flowing format to it and usually contain no visuals. Whereas the IMRaD is all about displaying its findings in tables. Another aspect that is different is the methods section. When writing using IMRaD, the author talks about the steps they took to get their findings. In past writings, there have been no sections for writing methods because we just research the facts and not follow a specific method of research.
